Janeen’s Environmental Record

A passionate advocate for our environment, Janeen has led the charge on legislation to protect Oregon from climate change, including:

Plastic Bag Ban

Barred restaurants, grocery stores and other stores from offering single-use plastic bags at checkout, and blocked restaurants from offering plastic straws/utensils unless they are requested by a customer.

Right to Repair

Made repairing electronic devices more fair and affordable in Oregon. It requires original equipment manufacturers to provide repair tools and information to owners and independent repair providers so consumers have more choices when it comes to fixing their electronic devices.

1.25% for Wildlife

Dedicated funding to support the protection and recovery of imperiled fish, wildlife, and habitat across Oregon – ensuring the resources needed to preserve our state's natural heritage for generations to come.

Power Act

Requires that big energy users, like data centers or crypto mining operations, pay for the actual strain they place on Oregon’s electric grid. It sets up a special rate category so these large users cover their own costs, instead of shifting them onto households and small businesses.

FAIR Energy Act

Protects consumers by limiting how often utilities can raise rates and keeping them from doing so during the high-demand winter months (November 1 to March 31). It also increases transparency, utilities must explain what you’re paying for and what rate changes are coming.

Toxic Free Cosmetics

Protects Oregonians from cancer-causing, hormone-disrupting toxins like mercury, formaldehyde, and PFAS that are commonly found in everyday cosmetics and personal care products — chemicals that disproportionately harm young women, Black women, and women of color, and threaten Oregon's waterways and drinking water.

Recycling Modernization Act

Updated Oregon’s outdated recycling system by making recycling easier for the public to use, expanding access to recycling services and upgrading the facilities that sort recyclables.

Polystyrene Ban

Prohibits polystyrene foam containers and PFAS "forever chemicals" in takeout food packaging — protecting Oregon communities from one of the fifth largest sources of industrial hazardous waste and chemicals linked to cancer, immune suppression, and reproductive harm.
