Janeen grew up in Gales Creek and was raised by a retired military veteran who, with her mom, owned their own small business. She graduated from Forest Grove High School, where she was the Viking school mascot and champion for school spirit. She later met and married her veteran husband, Tony.
Through working-class jobs in Washington County – Janeen as a customer service specialist at a local educational tech company and Tony as a fleet manager at a construction supply company – Janeen and Tony were able to build a good life in Senate District 15 for themselves and their two boys. Both sons attended Hillsboro public schools and graduated from Liberty High School. Now they are proud union members as a Special Education teacher (OEA) and a journeyman utility tree trimmer (IBEW Local 125).
An active volunteer in our schools, Janeen was inspired to run for the school board to improve the education system for all Hillsboro students. She served on the Hillsboro School Board from 2009-2017, including as Board Chair from 2011-2013.
In 2016, Janeen ran for State Representative to advocate for her community in Salem. As a State Representative, Janeen helped pass landmark legislation to increase funding for our schools, reduce gun violence, and protect reproductive rights. She also advocated for increased environmental protections and support for local small businesses and community organizations.
Janeen has served in the Oregon Senate since 2022. She has worked to pass historic investments for housing, support working families, protect our environment and grow Oregon’s small business opportunity.
Janeen has worked for Vernier Science Education, a STEM education tech company based in Washington County, for 28 years.
Janeen enjoys spending time with family, including her two grandkids and her grandpuppy. She can also be found shopping at our local farmers markets or volunteering at local events in the community. She is a Metro Master Recycler and active supporter of our local Chambers and the Hillsboro Schools Foundation.
