Janeen's Story

A lifelong resident of Washington County, Janeen grew up in Gales Creek and graduated from Forest Grove High School, where she served as the Viking school mascot.

Janeen and her husband Tony chose to raise their two boys in Hillsboro, where they attended Hillsboro public schools and both graduated from Liberty High School.

An active volunteer in the schools, Janeen was inspired to run for the school board so she could work to improve the education system for all Hillsboro students. She served on the Hillsboro School Board from 2009-2017 and was Board Chair from 2011-2013.

In 2016, Janeen ran for State Representative to take her community advocacy to Salem. As a State Representative, Janeen helped pass landmark legislation to increase funding for our schools, reduce gun violence, and protect reproductive rights. She also advocated for increased environmental protections and support for local small businesses and community organizations.

In 2022, Janeen was appointed by the Washington County Commission to serve her community in the Oregon State Senate. In her first legislative session as a Senator, Janeen helped pass historic investments to reduce homelessness and support working families and small businesses.

Janeen has worked for Vernier Science Education, an education software company based in Washington County, for 25 years.

She is also a longtime community volunteer, including helping home-bound seniors with Meals on Wheels People since 2011, volunteering to assist homeless families with Washington County Project Homeless Connect, and supporting innovative educational opportunities for students with the Hillsboro Schools Foundation.

Now a grandma, Janeen enjoys spending time with her grandson and volunteering in the community.
